Funds raised through this annual Rocky Start charity golf
tournament directly benefits the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
(NICU) at UC Irvine Medical Center.
Last year's tournament and dinner was held
Monday, September 29th, 2008 on the South Course at the
exclusive, private club Coto de Caza Golf Club.
Golfers were set to "Play a Round for Rocky Start" this year
amidst the spectacular views, natural terrain and wildlife sightings
in the Coto Valley and are later joined by dinner guests
arriving to a reception, catered dinner with eclectic silent auction
and exciting "Fund-a-Cure"-style live auction.
The golf course at Coto de Caza is a
championship-length golf course, designed by Robert Trent Jones and
promises an unforgettable golf experience. Scenic play
among 100-year-old California Oaks and natural habitats, the South Course
at Coto de Caza boasts play from 5,800 to 6,950 yards for the challenge
and enjoyment for golfers of all skill levels.
Play a Round for Rocky Start began with registration, unique
golfer gifts, a pre-tournament putting competition, to get everyone into
the swing of things, followed by lunch on the course. The contest
includes the usual longest drive and closest to the pin competitions
plus a challenge hole with our resident long drive champion. It
is an awesome sight for us normal duffers to see the champ
rise to the occasion with an average drive of 350
yards.
Following the challenging golf experience is our unique
golfer awards program and an evening where guests were honored &
treated to a sumptuous dinner. During the evening guests were
invited to tempt their fortunes with our extraordinary silent auction. Our
exclusive auction features an eclectic range of upscale items such as
original arts/crafts, distinctive merchandise & services, adventure
& travel opportunities, gourmet dinners, and tickets to cultural &
sporting events.
Reprising his role as guest emcee, Kent French of the Anaheim Ducks
Hockey Club keeps our evening rolling right into the
exciting live auction, during which dinner guests and golfers alike have
sponsored individual pieces of NICU equipment, and even pooled together
for a leading-edge, critical care infant warmer. During this part of
the program, the room is literally filled with energy. Don't miss
the incredible feeling of witnessing, and being part of, this
overwhelming display of generosity - it is truly
unforgettable.
The annual Rocky Start Foundation
charity golf tournament has been the event that helps make a
difference in the lives of babies born in crisis - born too soon, too
small or too sick.
Please join the Rocky Start
Foundation effort, where your support directly benefits the Neonatal
Intensive Care Unit. Thank you for your generosity in helping us to
make these tiny lives a priority.
